An escape into early 1900’s dream factory of film, food and fun!
HOTELS:
Hollywood Volume: Cool little Marriott boutique (part of their Triubute Portfolio collection) complete with a rooftop western bar, Mexican restaurant… yet affordable. Aside from the fact that it doesn’t feel like its part of a hotel conglomerate - as a Bonvoy member I got the best free breakfast and coffee with my stay - a killer burrito and legit latte I looked forward to each morning.
Tip: If you’re into line dancing - they have live bands on the roof several days a week.
LIBATIONS:
Good Times @ Davey Waynes: A walk through an inconspicuous garage through an old fridge… you’re transported to the 1970’s. It feels like you walked into a scene from the Brady Bunch where the music vibes are on point, Old Fashioned’s on tap along with your Coors banquet, an exclusive outdoor patio and live music playing the 70’s (you guessed it) several nights a week.
RESTAURANTS:
Mother Wolf: Just around the corner from the Hollywood Volume Hotel… this place was great. Inconspicuous just walking by the door… yet, underneath the historic art deco Citizen News Building… this Roman inspired Italian gem is easy on the eyes and the food & drink are top notch. I had the Mezzi Rigatoni all Carbonara - it didn’t disappoint.
Boa Steakhouse: My friend claimed en route I’d have the best skirt steak I’ve ever had. She wasn’t wrong, it was at least on par with the best I’ve had - and the cocktails and staff were fantastic. It’s a big open dining room that feels somewhat outdoors because it is. Try it!
ACTIVITIES:
The Hollywood Bowl: It really doesn’t matter what show you see here, just see it! This place dates back to 1921 and is voted by Rolling Stone as one of the top ten music venues in the USA. It was a bucket list for me… the Beatles played here and its where Tom Petty performed last.
Cheers, gents!
